Rome
No other city in the world weaves together so much history, art, and culture as does Rome! The center of one of the world’s greatest empires – it expressed both the noblest achievements and aspirations of the human spirit as well as its most ignoble. This global perspective became operative in Roman Catholicism and, during the Renaissance, sparked a rebirth of classical culture, art and building in the Vatican and throughout the city.
Rome boasts some of the best preserved Roman monuments – the Pantheon, the Colosseum and a number of buildings in the Forum. It has the greatest collection of early Christian art and architecture – from meeting sites of early Christians in pre-Constantinian Rome – to great 4th century basilicas, sarcophagi, and frescos in underground burial chambers. The entire city is an open history book – with something to point out at every corner. It is the perfect destination for interdisciplinary groups to visit and consider how diverse traditions are woven together in the art, architecture, religion and cultural practices of both historical and modern Rome.
Rome is the perfect venue for international meetings and conferences, pilgrimages and study tours.
