This is a region that was deeply influenced by Jewish, Christian and Muslim communities that lived side by side and mutually enriched each other. Coexistence wasn’t always the norm, but during times of respect and collaboration, local artisans, scholars and religious leaders built great monuments and began institutions that shaped medieval Europe. We will visit the town of Toledo – once a center of Jewish life and now a beautiful hill town dominated by a great cathedral and fortress. We will spend time in Jaen where we will have a chance to experience Spain as the locals do. From there we will travel to Granada to see one of the most important monuments of Islamic civilization – the Alhambra Palace. Our program includes a visit to Cordoba to see what was once the third largest mosque in the world and now a UNESCO site and Catholic cathedral. We conclude our program with several nights in Seville. This is a proud city with great religious and historic monuments and unique music, food and cultural life. We will be staying in city center hotels so that throughout the program you can explore these places at your own pace and get a feel for local life. Father Vasquez has created a program that weaves together history, art, religion and culture in cities unsurpassed in beauty, charm and hospitality. He’s eager to share the rich heritage of Spain with you. Come join us!
