Father George Evans invites you to join him for an inspiring and rich program to central Italy.  Our program is a customized itinerary linking cultural, historical, and religious sites in Rome, Assisi and Florence.  If this is your first trip to Italy, you'll be treated to visits to some of the most iconic sites.  If this is a return trip, there are plenty of new things to see and new perspectives to gain from return visits.  In addition to local expert guided visits, our program includes special meals and opportunities to explore local Italian neighborhoods and villages at your own pace.  The program includes an excursion to Castel Gondolfo - summer residence of the popes - and extended time in Assisi - one of the most enchanting medieval towns of Italy.  We will celebrate Mass in historical venues, always a moving experience.  October is a great time of year to visit Italy as the heat begins to lift and Italians celebrate Fall harvests.  Don't miss this wonderful program.  Invite your family and friends to join us!

Thursday, October 22, 2020

Arrival Rome.  Your tour manager will meet you and assist with clearing customs.  He/she will accompany you on private motorcoach for your transfer to the city center.  If flight arrives early, you stop at St. Paul Outside the Walls on the way into the city for a quick visit. Once we check-in, we will have some time to relax, adjust to new time zone and freshen up.  Our hotel will be in the city center affording us an opportunity to enjoy Rome during leisure time. Mid-afternoon, there will be a walking orientation of the historical center including Santa Maria Sopra Minerva, the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, and other sites.  Conclude with a nice welcome dinner at a local restaurant.  Overnight Rome.

Breakfast at hotel.  This moring, there will be an excursion to Castel Gondolfo to visit to the Apostolic Palace and Gardens.  This was the summer residence for Popes.  The program continues with a nice lunch in the area at Bucci (a great local restaurant) – in the town square with views of the lake. Continue back to the city stopping at St. Paul Outside the Walls (if this wasn't visited the day before) and the Catacombs (underground burial sites for the first generations of Christians) for a visit and Mass. Evening at leisure.  Overnight Rome.

Saturday, October 24, 2020

Breakfast at the hotel.  Today, the program includes a guided visit to the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel.  Continue with a  visit to the Basilica of San Pietro.  The rest of the day will be at leisure for you to explore Rome at your own pace.  Evening free.

Sunday, October 25, 2020

Breakfast at hotel.  Morning Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica (8:00am) .  The group will gather in the Square at 12:00 for the Angelus and Blessing of the Pope.  There will be a light lunch in the area then you will travel to Assisi.  Check into hotel with some free time to walk/explore (include visit to Santa Chiara).  Dinner/overnight Assisi.

Monday, October 26, 2020

Breakfast at hotel.  Visit and Mass at San Francesco - the large church built over the tomb of St. Francis. After the visit and Mass, there will be free time to explore the charming medieval city of Assisi.  Mid-afternoon, there will be a visit of San Damiano (the church St. Francis rebuilt) and the Porziuncula (where the early members of his order gathered and where he died). Dinner/overnight Assisi.

Tuesday, October 27, 2020

Breakfast at hotel.  Full day excursion to Florence.  Guided visit to the Accademia (with Michelangelo sculptures - including "the David"), Duomo (the famous basilica built by Brunelleschi).  Free time this afternoon.  Return to Assisi for dinner/ overnight.

Wednesday, October 28, 2020

Breakfast at hotel.  Early departure and travel to Rome.  Stop at St. John Lateran (one of the ancient churches of Rome) for a quick visit (with Mass).  Then check into hotel with the afternoon at leisure.  Tour manager will facilitate other optional visits for participants. Gather this evening for a festive farewell dinner at a local restaurant.  Overnight Rome.

Please note: Single rooms for single use are limited to 10% of the total number of rooms reserved. Should additional single rooms be requested, hotels may impose a higher supplement for all single rooms. If you have selected double occupancy but no roommate is available due to uneven numbers or if your roommate should cancel you will be in a single room and responsible for the single room supplement.

All prices listed are discounted for payment by check. When paying with a credit card, you will be charged the standard base price, which is 5% higher.

All program prices are based on availability of services at the time registration material is received; currency exchange rates in effect October 21, 2019—and on 2019 land and air tariffs—and are subject to change. All services are provided subject to Illume’s Conditions and Clauses.

The program prices will be reviewed before the invoices for the final payment are mailed, and will reflect the current prices.
